HOW TO REACH KEDARNATH TEMPLE

 

There is no direct route to Kedarnath from New Delhi. You are required to go via Rishikesh and Haridwar. Distance between Delhi to Kedarnath is 452 Kms. You will start your journey from Delhi and end in Gaurikund. Gaurikund is the starting point of Kedarnath Trekking.

 

Day wise route to Kedarnath from Delhi

 

Day 1: DELHI- GUPTKASHI via RISHIKESH and HARIDWAR

Start your journey to Kedarnath from Delhi at night. First, drive to Guptkashi via Haridwar and Rishikesh. Guptkashi is home to historic temples such as Vishwanath temple and Ardhnareshwar temple. It is located at a distance of 47kms from Kedarnath. If you start your journey at night from Delhi, you will reach Rishikesh, the city of Yoga. Explore the beauty of Rishikesh such as Lakshman Jhula, Ram Jhula, river rafting point, etc. After enjoying Rishikesh. Leave for Guptkashi. You will reach Guptkashi by Evening. Check in to your hotel at Guptkashi, have dinner and take a rest. Stay a night in Guptkashi.

 

Day 2: GUPTKASHI-KEDARNATH

After taking a sleep of 7-8 hours, wake up early in the morning, have breakfast, and leave for Gaurikund. Gaurikund is a point from where you will start your trekking to Kedarnath. The distance of the Kedarnath trek from Gaurikund is of 16kms. At Gauri Kund, you can also hire a pony/horse/Palki who will take you to the temple or you can also take a helicopter from Phata, Gaurikund (As per Tickets). 

 

NOTE: If you wish to get the helicopter for Kedarnath, you are required to book a helicopter prior to your journey, as there is less availability of helicopters due to high demand.

 

After Reaching Gaurikund, you can start your trek to Kedarnath temple. While trekking you can explore the beauty of mountains and rivers. After completing a trek of 16kms, you will reach the holy shrine of Kedarnath Temple. Explore the magic of the Kedarnath temple, do darshan, and take blessings. You can also enjoy aarti at Kedarnath

 

NOTE:

  • Kedarnath temple remains close from 3 PM-5 PM. Aarti Timings are 4 AM in the morning and 6 PM in the evening.

 

  • You are required to arrange for accommodation at Kedarnath as trekking is not allowed at night.

 

Day 3: KEDARNATH-GUPTKASHI

After enjoying aarti and an overnight stay at Kedarnath Temple, wake up early in the morning and trek back to Gaurikund. By afternoon you will reach Gaurikund. At gaurikund, your driver will pick you up and drive you back to the Guptakashi hotel. Have dinner, take a rest at your Guptkashi hotel, and overnight stay.

 

Day 4: GUPTKASHI- HARIDWAR

The distance from Guptkashi to Haridwar is 220kms. To reach Haridwar from Guptkashi will take you approx. 5-6 hours of drive. After driving for 5-6 hours, you will reach Haridwar, the city of God by evening. You will get the opportunity to explore Haridwar. Enjoy Haridwar sightseeing such as Mansa Devi, Ganga aarti, etc. Check-in to the hotel at Haridwar. Have dinner and overnight stay.

 

Day 5: HARIDWAR- DELHI

After relaxing, wake up early in the morning, have breakfast, check out from the hotel and start your journey back to Delhi. The distance from Haridwar to Delhi is 241kms. You will reach Delhi by afternoon as it is a drive of 4-5 hours (Via Expressway). Your journey ends here with beautiful memories and blessings of Kedarnath.

 

IMPORTANT THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND BEFORE GOING TO KEDARNATH

 

  • Night Driving is not allowed in mountains, so plan your trip accordingly
  • You can take a break from the trek by staying in important cities like Haridwar, Rishikesh, Devprayag, Srinagar, and Rudraprayag
  • It is important to arrange for your accommodation prior to your journey as at peak times there are fewer chances of getting the rooms
  • It is mandatory to book helicopter tickets prior to your journey if you wish to travel via helicopter
  • It is mandatory to get the registration slip to start your trek. You can get the registration slip from both online and offline modes
  • Carry a battery-operated torch, fully-charged power banks, and extra batteries for cameras
  • Keep buffer days in case you get stuck somewhere
  • Make sure that you get a full-body check-up before going to Kedarnath as at Kedarnath there are oxygen issues
